Why smoke when you can eat? You prefer to taste your cannabis in a good chocolate cake or in empanadas, we understand you, and so do we! We’ll explain the basics of learning how to cook cannabis.

Can we eat cannabis?

Yes, but he’ll have to have two transformations. The first must be heated beforehand. Indeed, the “raw” plant does not contain cannabinoids that provide effect like CBD, it is necessary to decarboxylate, that is to say heat it. When smoking cannabis, decarboxylation occurs at the time of combustion, but the process is a little more complicated when cooking it.

You either have to decarboxylate the plant directly through an oven, a simple process that we detail in this article,or when cooking your dish. In this case, you will have to follow recipes as we propose, which respects a temperature and a cooking time that allow to release the cannabinoids without burning them.

The second transformation is that cannabinoids must have been extracted in fat. Our digestive system does not assimilate cannabis as a plant, so the plant will have to be infused into an oily liquid.

Why make Marrakesh butter or cannabis oil?

So you will understand that even decarboxylate you will not be able to digest the flower, and therefore benefit from the effects of cannabis. Cannabis is lipophilic, meaning it is biologically available when it is likened to oil. To make cannabis available to our bodies, we must therefore infuse it into fat.

The two most common methods are the transformation of cannabis flowers into Marrakech butter, or oil

Besides, you might imagine that if your recipe contains large amounts of butter, you don’t need to make your own Marrakech butter. You’d be wrong for two reasons. First, some of the cannabinoids are unlikely to be absorbed into the butter due to inadequate cooking. Secondly, it is very easy to cook with oil and butter, much more than with vegetable matter. Do you really enjoy finding bits of herbs in your chocolate fondant? Even if it takes a little time, you will appreciate the quality of the recipes you will make with these two ingredients.

It also reduces the taste of grass and chlorophyll and focuses on terpenes, cannabis-specific flavours.

Finally, by processing cannabis, you can choose the concentration of cannabis, thus the power of your butter/oil. Imagine that you want to incorporate a concentration of 50 grams of cannabis into a dish, this represents a large amount of vegetable matter that will divert your recipe. While you could get that same amount of cannabinoids in 50 grams of butter, which are already originally planned in the recipe. Cooking with cannabis turn into oil is paramount.

In what form can cannabis be eaten?

You can obviously make your own Marrakech butter, or oil. But you can also use concentrates like our CBD cannabis oiland incorporate it into your recipes. The advantage is that you only have to put a few drops, since our cannabis has already been decarboxylate and infused in extra-virgin organic olive oil.

Is there a difference in effects when we eat and smoke cannabis?

yes! When cannabis is inhaled, the effects are immediate. Cannabinoids reach the brain directly and you don’t have to wait to feel the effects. The first effects will fade after a few minutes, but you will feel the effects for about two hours. In addition, the combustion allows you to benefit from all cannabinoids and terpenes, because they all reach their boiling point and you inhale all of the smoke produced.

When cannabis is ingested, the body must first digest the cannabis that will reach the brain through the bloodstream. It is therefore necessary to wait between one and three hours to feel the effects of cannabis when eating it. The advantage is that the effects are gradually felt in the body, but they settle more sustainably than when inhaled. The perception of the effects is also different, with an adequate dosage of THC, ingestion should produce a more euphoric state accompanied by a feeling of well-being and lightness. The decarboxylation will necessarily be partial, because you will have burned some of the molecules, and another will not be decarboxylated, because you will not have reached the boiling point. Therefore, you will not benefit from the full potential cannabinoid effects of the plant.

Is it dangerous to eat cannabis?

Beware, this can lead to very unpleasant experiences in case of overdose, which unfortunately can happen very quickly. This can happen if you use cannabis loaded with THC. Our CBD flowers or CBD oil cannot produce the effects we describe below because they do not contain enough THC for you to suffer the effects.

Indeed, what is called a “bad trip” can happen when smoking, but it will last less than when swallowed.  In addition, the person reacting quickly badly will stop smoking cannabis. When swallowed, an overdose will not be felt until an hour later. The person may have consumed a very large amount of cannabis during this time. This overdose can potentially lead to an emergency room consultation in the same way as an ethyl coma.

What precautions should you take before eating cannabis?

In order to avoid an overdose, it is better to have tested your concentrate (oil, butter) in minute quantities in order to know its power. Even if you make Marrakech butter several times the final concentration of cannabinoids will vary. The amount of cannabinoids in your herb can be increased tenfold. This will mean that with the same recipe you could have butter 10 times more powerful than the previous time.

Be careful: If your cannabis has not been decarboxylated before being processed, you will need to test your concentrate after cooking it, or after preparing your dish to feel the effects. So you’ll have to remember to eat everything too quickly!

If you make brownies for example, we advise you to taste a small piece, wait at least three hours and then judge the effects. Many people who are in a hurry make the mistake of believing that cannabis does not work and take such amounts of cannabis that they can end up hospitalized. Don’t be too greedy, and you’ll enjoy your experience more.

Do not schedule any activity during the 8 hours following the intake. You have to be relaxed and free to enjoy the experience. In particular, avoid being in a potentially stressful environment at the time of the climb, i.e. 1 to 3 hours after ingestion.
